Hate in scripture

kāf rā hā (ك ر ه) occurs 41 times in the Quran, in eight derived forms:
  • 17 times as the form I verb kariha (كَرِهَ)
  • once as the form II verb karraha (كَرَّهَ)
  • five times as the form IV verb uk'riha (أُكْرِهَ)
  • three times as the noun kur'h (كُرْه)
  • five times as the noun karh (كَرْه)
  • seven times as the active participle kārihūn (كَٰرِهُون)
  • once as the passive participle makrūh (مَكْرُوه)
  • twice as the form IV verbal noun ik'rāh (إِكْرَاه)

Verb (form I) - to dislike, to hate

(2:216:9) takrahūyou dislikeوَعَسَىٰ أَنْ تَكْرَهُوا شَيْئًا وَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكُمْ
(4:19:25) karih'tumūhunnayou dislike themفَإِنْ كَرِهْتُمُوهُنَّ فَعَسَىٰ أَنْ تَكْرَهُوا شَيْئًا وَيَجْعَلَ اللَّهُ فِيهِ خَيْرًا كَثِيرًا
(4:19:28) takrahūyou dislikeفَعَسَىٰ أَنْ تَكْرَهُوا شَيْئًا وَيَجْعَلَ اللَّهُ فِيهِ خَيْرًا كَثِيرًا
(8:8:6) karihadisliked (it)لِيُحِقَّ الْحَقَّ وَيُبْطِلَ الْبَاطِلَ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ الْمُجْرِمُونَ
(9:32:14) karihathe disbelievers dislike (it)وَيَأْبَى اللَّهُ إِلَّا أَنْ يُتِمَّ نُورَهُ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ الْكَافِرُونَ
(9:33:13) karihadislike (it)لِيُظْهِرَهُ عَلَى الدِّينِ كُلِّهِ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ
(9:46:8) karihaAllah dislikedوَلَٰكِنْ كَرِهَ اللَّهُ انْبِعَاثَهُمْ فَثَبَّطَهُمْ
(9:81:7) wakarihūand they dislikedوَكَرِهُوا أَنْ يُجَاهِدُوا بِأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنْفُسِهِمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ
(10:82:6) karihadislike itوَيُحِقُّ اللَّهُ الْحَقَّ بِكَلِمَاتِهِ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ الْمُجْرِمُونَ
(16:62:4) yakrahūnathey dislikeوَيَجْعَلُونَ لِلَّهِ مَا يَكْرَهُونَ وَتَصِفُ أَلْسِنَتُهُمُ الْكَذِبَ
(40:14:7) karihadislike (it)فَادْعُوا اللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ الدِّينَ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ الْكَافِرُونَ
(47:9:3) karihūhateذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَرِهُوا مَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ فَأَحْبَطَ أَعْمَالَهُمْ
(47:26:5) karihūhateذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَالُوا لِلَّذِينَ كَرِهُوا مَا نَزَّلَ اللَّهُ سَنُطِيعُكُمْ
(47:28:7) wakarihūand hatedذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمُ اتَّبَعُوا مَا أَسْخَطَ اللَّهَ وَكَرِهُوا رِضْوَانَهُ
(49:12:25) fakarih'tumūhuNay, you would hate itأَيُحِبُّ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ لَحْمَ أَخِيهِ مَيْتًا فَكَرِهْتُمُوهُ
(61:8:10) karihadislikeوَاللَّهُ مُتِمُّ نُورِهِ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ الْكَافِرُونَ
(61:9:13) karihadislike (it)لِيُظْهِرَهُ عَلَى الدِّينِ كُلِّهِ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ

Verb (form II) - to make hateful

(49:7:21) wakarrahaand has made hatefulوَكَرَّهَ إِلَيْكُمُ الْكُفْرَ وَالْفُسُوقَ وَالْعِصْيَانَ

Verb (form IV) - to compel, to force

(10:99:11) tuk'rihucompelأَفَأَنْتَ تُكْرِهُ النَّاسَ حَتَّىٰ يَكُونُوا مُؤْمِنِينَ
(16:106:9) uk'rihais forcedإِلَّا مَنْ أُكْرِهَ وَقَلْبُهُ مُطْمَئِنٌّ بِالْإِيمَانِ
(20:73:8) akrahtanāyou compelled usإِنَّا آمَنَّا بِرَبِّنَا لِيَغْفِرَ لَنَا خَطَايَانَا وَمَا أَكْرَهْتَنَا عَلَيْهِ مِنَ السِّحْرِ
(24:33:29) tuk'rihūcompelوَلَا تُكْرِهُوا فَتَيَاتِكُمْ عَلَى الْبِغَاءِ إِنْ أَرَدْنَ تَحَصُّنًا
